Introduction
Welcome to the Under One Roof Project! Our rural area, 14 towns clustered around Peterborough in southwest New Hampshire's eastern Monadnock region, has many resources and opportunities available to us. For some of our community members who experience developmental disabilities, it takes connections and a friendly hand to fully participate in local recreation and employment. Full participation of people with disabilities and their families, and collaboration with community members and organizations is the focus of Under One Roof's work. Staff, families and all of us at the newly developing community resource center in downtown Peterborough , The River Center, envision a community that embraces diversity among its members.
Family Support 360, a program of the federal Administration for Developmental Disabilities, is providing 5 years of funding (2004-2009) to create a "one-stop" resource center to serve people who experience developmental disabilities and their families. To achieve this, the Under One Roof Project, sponsored by the Family Center of Greater Peterborough, and in partnership with the New Hampshire Institute on Disability/University of New Hampshire and the New Hampshire Developmental Disabilities Council, is developing a community resource center for people of all ages and abilities in rural southwestern New Hampshire.
The new name of our one-stop is The River Center: A place for community resources and connections.
